This is a form a therapy that is used to help the immune system to fight cancer. It is different from chemotherapy in that it is focused on immune system while chemotherapy attacks the cancer cells directly. The exact way that biological therapy works is unclear to the doctors. They are still researching the subject, but so far haven’t be able to accurately assess the nature of how it functions. What they have thought was the nature of its effectiveness is associate with three possible aspects. The first is to stop or slow the growth of cancer cells. It can also make it easier for your immune system to kill or eliminate cancer cells from the body. And it may also help to prevent the cancer from spreading to other parts of the body. Again, although these are not given as absolute conclusions they are the ones that have so far been postulated by researchers.

The immune system is one that includes the spleen, lymph nodes, tonsils, bone marrow and white blood cells. They are all in part of the way the body has to combat diseases and infections. It is the naturally means that is intended to enable the body to stay healthy and recover from any injuries as well as promote the healing process. They are the basic core of what works to fight off those types of invading issues from sickness and disease.

When the doctor recommends biological types of treatment it is only natural to have questions. That could include such things as if it is the only option or how often will the treatments be needed. Plus you might have a question about the costs or possible side effects. And with side effects on might experience things like rashes or swelling, flu like symptoms or even low blood pressure.

There are several methods used as forms of biological therapy. This includes cancer vaccines that are forms of injections often given after you have cancer. They are a means used to help the body fight cancer. And currently the doctors looking to see how such vaccines can be used to help with other types of cancer.

There are other biological treatments used that have names such as BCG, IL-2, Interferon alpha, Rituxan, Herception, Neupogen, Procrit Epogen and IL-11 and Interleukin-11. Doctors are continuing to study biological treatments in trial studies to learn more about how effective they can be. Hopefully with the time they will be able to enhance what is known so they can make this form treatment even more successful.
