Breast cancer is not a disease that in its initial phases has any given pain. So unlike some disease you can’t assume that you will suddenly feel sick as a clue there is something wrong. That is why the symptoms that do occur have to be taken seriously. Because the moment they appear it means normally the cancer has been there for some time. Cancer cells move slow and they can not always be detected by a mammogram or self examination while they are at a very early stage. And since by the time it is noticeable in the breast it means that it has been there for a while. So it is very important to not disregard the symptoms they do appear. It can be very hard at times to come to terms with that possibility in terms of cancer, but ignoring it can be very dangerous. This is sometimes the way human nature works, we just put off paying attention to those things we just prefer not to think about. Sadly this happens so often. With breast cancer the most common symptom is the appearance of a lump either in the breast or in the underarm area where the lymph nodes are located. This can also appear as a thickness in the beast rather than a single lump. And it may not be cancer, but without an examination, mammogram or the need or biopsy there is no way to tell for sure. So that is why they recommend every women needs to be sure that she does regular self-examinations to check for any possible lumps. And that also means to visit her doctor for him or her to do a more professional examination for the same possibilities. This is all a way to be sure the lump is detected as early as possible. It will ensure the best chance to catch the risk of a tumor before it has spread. Such examinations are something, along with mammograms that are considered the most beneficial means to helping with an early detection of any tumors.

In addition to lumps there may be a change in the nipple. This can be something like a change it is size or shape. And it might turn inward or become very tender. Plus the nipple can become swollen, red or scaly. It can even have ridges or pitting so it makes the skin appears like an orange. There can also be a case of nipple discharge of fluids. This is a discharge that would occur other than from nursing, although a discharge can be from something other than cancer. However, it can only be determined by letting the doctor check out the symptom.

Once any symptom is noticed and checked out by the doctor it will an occasion to decide on what from or further examination might be needed. This can be something like ultrasound, mammogram, a MRI, magnetic resonance imaging or a biopsy. This will be something the doctor will determine during a clinical breast exam. Each method will be to determine if the symptom is in fact cancerous. After that assessment will come the recommendations for treatment options. All of that will be the decision based upon the results of any tests. And that is something the doctor will review when the time comes.
