Cancer kills millions and millions of people a year. In women breast cancer is the second most common, and deadliest cancer , second only to lung cancer. There is still no cause for breast cancer, only that it occurs most commonly in family history. The chances of getting breast cancer if there is a family history of cancer. Breast cancer doesn’t just affect women. Men can get breast cancer as well, but a lot less likely.

Although skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women, breast cancer is the most feared. Breast cancer is a tumor which starts in the breast tissue and can spread through the breast, and surrounding areas. In advanced stages the breast cancer can spread to vital organs ,and eventually kill the person , if not treated. The primary goal is to stop the growth, and to eliminate the tumor. In the early stages , surgery can remove the tumor, and possibly prevent the cancer from spreading. This makes it vital to catch the cancer at it earliest stage.

Self breast exams are essential and should be done monthly. Breast cancer begins with no symptoms at all. The tumor begins to develop under the breast tissue, with no symptoms, or signs. When it gets large enough a lump may occur. This is them most common first symptom of breast cancer. The lump may, or may not, be painful, This is why a self breast exam is important. The breasts should be inspected visually, and by touch. Because the tumor can start anywhere, the entire breast, surrounding area, ands the arm pit region need to be checked.. Even with modern medicine, and research the cause of breast cancer is not known. Family history of cancer seems to be the biggest risk for women. If your family has a history of cancer, the chances are higher that you will also get breast cancer. Mother, grand mother, sister, or first cousin are higher risks for being a cancer victim. This doesn’t mean you will get cancer, or not if you don’t have a family history of cancer. The percentages are just higher if you do Age is another risk. This is why women of all ages need to be aware of the signs and symptoms, and to make sure they examine themselves at a young age.

Although no actual cause for breast cancer is known, there are some things that seem to be a contributor, or a common denominator for breast cancer victims. Other then family history, women who have children late in life, seem to have a higher breast cancer rate then women who had children younger. Radiation exposure at a young age, seems to be a factor as well. Diet and lifestyle are currently being researched as possible risk factors but no concrete evidence is there to support any decision. Consumption of alcohol is one thing being looked at, but again, there is no strong evidence to link the two things together.

Breast lumps are one of the most misdiagnosed things in the medical field. Many times breast lumps are not dangerous, and are either curable or go away on their own. H This is why it is often misdiagnosed. Any unusual lumps, or a visible change of the breast, should be taken very serious
